Hong Kong-born Sybase CEO John S. Chen to be honored

The non-profit California-Asia Business Council (Cal-Asia) will present its 2007 New Silk Road Award to John S. Chen, chairman, chief executive officer and president of Sybase, Inc. at its annual "Asia Night" dinner and networking gala. The event will take place on Friday, October. 26, at the St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco.

Previous winners of the award, given annually for outstanding contributions to business ties with Asia, are former Secretary of State George Shultz (2006); US Senator Dianne Feinstein (2005); Washington SyCip, known as the"Wise Owl" of Asia business (2004); and Dr. Daniel Chao, then chairman ofBechtel China (2003).

"John Chen is being honored for building strong markets for American technology in China, Japan, Korea and elsewhere in Asia, and for vigorously championing the expansion of healthy US-Asia commerce in Congress and in industry and policy forums," according to Brad Aris, senior vice president of Wells Fargo HSBC Trade Bank, San Francisco, who is chairman of Cal-Asia's award committee.
